X Games California is Back!

X Games California is Back!

The world's most elite action sports athletes will kick-off the summer season with events in sunny southern California, with our happening home of Ventura hosting the exciting finals. That’ll be July 21st through 23rd at the Ventura County Fairgrounds and Event Center, less than a mile from Clocktower Inn.

Get ready for more than 150 skateboard, BMX, and moto X athletes to compete 50 + hours at this year’s X Games, with star appearances from X Games favorites Sky Brown, Elliot Sloan, Nyjah Huston, Garrett Reynolds, Momiji Nishiya, and others. This summer marks the first time in three years since X Games fans came together in-person to enjoy Skateboard, BMX, and moto X competitions. The Finals weekend will include competitions, an interactive festival, and live music, all right down on the beach. But the mountain and ocean backdrop isn’t the only reason Ventura was chosen to host; California has long been the epicenter of action sports, producing some of the most talented athletes in the world, so it makes perfect sense the X Games should make their way back. Lucky us, only the best X Games athletes will advance to Finals weekend in Ventura, so when you get your tickets online, plan for Finals weekend and spend the night at Clocktower Inn!

Winter at the Wineries

Winter at the Wineries

While you soak up the sun in Ventura, raise a glass to the hard-working vintners whose wines are here for the tasting. This month, we’ll share with you three wineries we think should be on your weekend to-do list as well as a couple of seasonal activities to round out your stay.

Four Brix Winery’s smaller production makes their tastings all the more exclusive. Visit to sample internationally-inspired wine blends with grapes sourced from Central Coast vineyards.

Old Creek Ranch Winery boasts a rich history of farming, cattle, and fruit orchards. Grapes are new to the land and were harvested for the first time this year.  The soil tells a story and the wine is better for it.

Labyrinth Winery toasts to elegance and balance in every glass– a wine made better by the passion on the three people who made the vineyard a reality. Visit their tasting room for an unforgettable experience.

Speaking of balance, while you’re in Ventura, don’t miss Winter Whale Watching at Ventura Pier. Walk to the end of the pier for your best chance at spotting the migrating grey whales, humpback whales, and orcas.

And finally–especially if you’ve come to the coast with the kids–save time during your stay to enrich your minds at the Museum of Ventura. Featured this month: the surprising history of prohibition in Ventura County.

Take in Divine Views at Serra Cross

Take in Divine Views at Serra Cross

Legend has it that the Serra Cross predates Ventura; some say it was built by Junípero Serra himself, not long after the founding of Mission San Buenaventura in 1782.

Whatever its true origins, the Cross quickly became one of the area’s defining features. And today, it retains that distinction, offering the best vantage point of the city that grew beneath it.

From its place in a special section of Grant Park, visitors can marvel at bustling Downtown Ventura, the hulking Anacapa and Santa Cruz Islands, and more. The Cross is an attraction in and of itself, too: Designated as a city and state landmark, the current edition is the fourth to be built since the original was erected nearly 250 years ago.

Getting there is easy. Set atop La Loma de la Cruz, the Cross is a brisk one-mile hike from our front door. So, lace up your walking shoes and head for the hills; you’re in for a rewarding workout.
